This pasta shop-cum-deli in Turin’s Barriera di Milano quarter recently celebrated 70 years in the business. It stands as a testament to the perseverance of Giorgio Ferri, grandson of Giovanni and  Mira, who brought their gastronomic skill to Turin from the Emilia Romagna region just after the war. The business continues to revolve around classic fresh pastas such as old-fashioned Piedmontese agnolotti, plin, tagliatelle and panzerotti, plus trofie to serve with pesto, sold by measure or in jars, which arrives fresh from Finale Ligure. Not that Giorgio has forgotten his roots: every morning, in fact, he makes lasagne alla bolognese from an old family recipe and sells it ready to heat in trays. Homemade deli dishes occupy the remainder of the space in the two large display counters: typical Piedmontese specialties that are always available are Russian salad, antipasto Gianduia (mixed vegetables in tomato sauce), roast beef, breaded veal cutlets or trout in carpione (marinated in onions and vinegar), ham in aspic, and fritto misto, mixed fry. Select charcuterie and cheese round off the savory range, while desserts include panna cotta and bonet (set chocolate and amaretti custard). Since 2019 it has been possible to enjoy all the fresh deli’s dishes in a dedicated space on the premises. Excellent value for money.
