The lovely Fontecuore esate is situated on land given over not only to vineyards but also centuries-old cedars and other trees of rare beauty. Run by Stefano Desderi and Maria Luisa Monticelli, it covers an area of 16 hectares, four of which are cultivated with vines, mainly erbaluce and nebbiolo. It produces nine types of wine and converted to organic farming some years ago. Its three metodo classicos are: one aged for more than ten years, another that is slightly younger (both made with erbaluce grapes), plus a Rosato Metodo Classico made with nebbiolo and neretto di San Giorgio grapes. There are also two Erbaluces, one traditional, the other produces after lengthy maceration (orange wine-style), and a Caluso Passito. The range also features a Nebbiolo, a Rosso Morenico (made with rare morainal grapes) and an after-dinner white wine made with a selection of rare grapes, all aged in wood. The winery takes part in cultural events, organizes tasting and is recognized as a “fattoria didattica,” an educational farm.
