The Mecarelli butcher’s shop is an institution for residents of Turin’s Crocetta quarter and is often crowded. Credit for this is due to Diego Mecarelli and Rosario Butera who with their experience, first as employees and then as owners, under their belt, select their livestock breeders and suppliers with great care and attention. Piedmontese fassona veal is the ingredient of noteworthy hamburgers, roast beef and meatballs, while excellent free-range chicken and Carmagnola gray rabbit are also available. Moving to charcuterie, while delicious Cuneo prosciutto is gaining in popularity, the range also features old favorites from outside Piedmont, such as culatello di Zibello, prosciutto di Parma Sant’Ilario and prosciutto di San Daniele by Coradazzi. The shop also stocks prime-quality pickles and condiments, pasta, buffalo mozzarellas and goat’s milk robiola cheeses.
