You’ll know you’ve come to Cascina Blu when you find yourself immersed in vast expanses of blueberry bushes: it’s a unique place hidden away from the frantic daily traffic on the border between Ciriè and Ceretta. The farm workshop is small but packed with goodies: first the fresh organic blueberries, then the ones preserved in syrup or processed into jams (without added sugar) and juices, or dried or used in ice lollies and ice creams. In short, here blueberries rule: with rice, in soft drinks, in liqueurs and even coated in chocolate (not to mention beauty and body care products). The business is family-run and is managed today by Laura and Alberto Valentino, who gave up their jobs as architects to devote themselves to blueberry growing. The berries grow between June and early August and each bush is productive only for ten days or so: this is why the farm rotates blueberries with other varieties of berries and thus diversifies production. The farm also organises events such as open-air yoga classes, parties, dinners, and exhibitions, all in a characteristically lively atmosphere.
