Silvano Gelato d’altri tempi

Silvano Gelato d’altri tempi

One of the oldest, best-known gelaterias – or, rather, milk bars, in town. It’s no coincidence that the rite of sitting down at the table to enjoy a coupe of ice cream still survives here. Gianduja, rice cream (containing whole grains) and marron glacé, the all-time favorite flavors, have now been joined by Gran Torino, gianduja reinforced and enriched with chocolate flakes and crushed hazelnuts. Alessandra Girardello and Enrico Senatore, who have been running the place for the last few years, have worked on the wholesomeness of their products, progressively altering the protein/carbohydrate ratio and making them less sweet and more nutritious. This naturally involves selecting types of organic eggs and fairy milk suitable for the purpose. Besides coupes, another very popular classic is the mini taglio, which consists of a strong black coffee with three scoops of ice cream. For milk-free sorbet lovers, the bar serves seasonal fruit and plain chocolate versions. The range is rounded off by excellent traditional Sicilian granitas.
