One of the most historic gelaterias in Turin, Miretti began as a bar-cafeteria in 1981. It was opened and transformed into a meeting place for Turin society by Ezio Miretti, who gives it its name. Besides coffee, tramezzini and aperitifs, it has always sold ice cream, a tradition continued today by Leonardo La Porta, president of the Ice Cream Group of Ascom, the Turin entrepreneurs association, which became a stakeholder in the company that runs the business in the late 1980s. The results have been impressive and include sixth place in the Gelato Festival World Ranking, the most complete world classification of single ice cream makers. The most iconic flavours in this refined, vaguely art nouveau establishment are “nocciolino di Chivasso” and “crema San Giovanni”, a limited edition produced in June every year for the city’s patron saint’s day which evokes traditional “Charity Bread”, a blessed bread flavoured with pepper and saffron. Another interesting and creative flavour is Araba fenice, or Phoenix, fiordilatte with smoked Japanese green tea, raspberries and chilli, created to celebrate the rebirth of the gelateria after the fire that destroyed it in 2020.
