This shop was opened in 1970 by the parents of the present owner Manuela Malvasio as a patisserie but since 2000 the business has specialised exclusively in chocolate, a typical Ivrea tradition. Historic creations feature tastini, cremini decorated with images of typewriters, and pavé, small chocolate and hazelnut cubes that evoke porphyry cobblestones.
The bond with the local area is also apparent in Cichet, round chocolate balls filled with local wines and liqueurs (passito, ratafià, grappa, genepy), and in Giuraje, typical sugared hazelnut dragées coated with royal icing. In 2023 a new speciality was introduced: Machar, dedicated to the Blessed Bishop McCarthy, who is buried in Ivrea. Other new entries include the “medaglione di Eporedia”, a plain chocolate wafer inspired by a bronze Roman medallion from the era of Emperor Titus discovered in Ivrea and on display at the Museo Garda, and Divina!, spicy chocolates dedicated to Dante Alighieri who, in his Purgatory, cites the Marchese Guglielmo del Monferrato, who brought suffering to the Canavese area.
Goods may be bought online or at the shop, open from Tuesday to Saturday from 9.30am to 1pm and 3.30pm to 7pm (in summer it closes at 12.30pm and reopens at 4pm).
