Birrificio Torino, which celebrated its 20th anniversary in 2021, deserves credit for reviving brewing in Turin, 50 years or so after the closure of the historical Boringhieri brewery. The heart and soul of the place is brewmaster Mauro Mascarello, helped by his brother Alberto and Stefano Pombia who run the pub. The latter is also open at lunchtime, when it serves its many regular customers an impressive variety of dishes to go with its beers (about 90% of production is tapped in loco). Mauro is a fan of the German tradition who tends towards an easy-drinking style. His pièce de resistance, Clara, is a low-fermented pale ale with a moderate alcohol content (4,6%) that goes well with pasta and rice dishes and poultry. Also very popular is one of his latest creations, Drôla, a spicy white IPA (4,2%), made with three cereals (barley, wheat, rye), perfect with fried and fish dishes. Lovers of different styles will be spoilt for choice among the eight beers (plus two seasonal labels) on sale.
