Under the porticoes and in the elegant orangerie in the centre of San Mauro, this patisserie has attracted a flock of customers, regulars and passers-by, since it opened in 1971. Here Walter Gallizioli, his wife Monica and their son Gianluca have become something of an institution for the supreme quality of their artisan products. At the main counter you’ll find a wide variety of flaky croissants, veneziane, apple flapjacks, and puff pastry triangles filled with berry fruits and homemade jam. The next counter is a feast of fruit jellies, fresh confectionery and pastries (with versions for the lactose-intolerant): novelties include shortbread flambé with crème chiboust flavored with yuzu (an oriental superfood with a characteristic grapefruit taste) and baba sponge with mascarpone and strawberry syrup. In addition to traditional cakes, they also propose a beautifully fresh peach and crème brûlée shortcrust tart and, in the festive seasons, panettone and colomba, some with candied berry fruits. In summer, they produce ice-cream, and all year round assorted light, fragrant savory puff pastry baskets (be sure to try the prosciutto and raspberry). At number 58 of the same street, they also have a sweet and gift shop.
