The Giovanetto farm is situated on the border with the Valle d’Aosta, among terraced vineyards and olive groves. Adriano teamed up with his father in 2002 and it was he who began work on preserving the terraces and pioneering olive growing in Piedmont. With the death of his father few years later, Adriano picked up his mantle and in addition to producing oil with leccino and other olives, introduced the prized Umbrian Don Carlo cultivar to make a single-variety oil.
At first the olives were pressed in mills in Liguria but have since been brought gradually closer to the local area: in 2007 to Vialfrè, then in 2011 to Settimo Vittone. In collaboration with Turin University’s Faculty of Agrarian Sciences, Adriano has carried out research into the historic olive varieties that best adapt to the climate in the Canavese area.
The wine range comprises a Canavese Rosso, vinified with native grape varieties, and a Canavese Nebbiolo, aged in wood casks. Tastings are organised on the farm premises and in the balmetto, or natural cellar, as are tours of the vineyards and olive groves, and it is possible to buy products in situ.
