Birrificio Grado Plato was established in 2003, making it one of the first craft breweries in Italy. Founder Sergio Ormea is still part of the management team, flanked by Giorgio Milano and brothers Simone and Stefano Bagnasco, who moved the premises to Montaldo Torinese in 2009. The brewery produces 13 different beer typologies, starting from old favorites such as Sveva, which draws inspiration from classic low-alcohol Bavarian lagers, and Spoon River, an amber barley malt. Characteristic beers are Strada San Felice, made with chestnuts from the Val Mongia, Kukumerla, with its aromas of peaches preserved in syrup, and, above all, Chocarrubica, the feather in the brewery’s cap, produced with carobs and cocoa beans, winner of the prestigious platinum medal in Strasburg in 2010. The whole range is on sale in unmistakable 75 cl bottles with wire swing caps, while two typologies (the IPA and Bingo, made with Japanese hop) come in smaller 33 cl bottles with crown caps. Also worthy of mention is the distinctive Amaro del Birraio, a digestif produced in Castelnuovo Don Bosco with a variety of plants and herbs, including the hops used in Sveva.
