Ortobello dal 1979

Giovanni Occhipinti selects the fruit and vegetables and processed goods personally. Sicily still claims the lion’s share, not only with its classis citrus fruits but also with gems such as its exotic fruits, late-harvest peaches and impressive Giarratana onions. Then there are Sicilian specialties preserved in jars and other products, such as anchovies, caponata (sweet and sour vegetable stew), tuna, mackerel, capers, cheeses, sauces, charcuterie, beer and wine. A small fridge also stocks cannoli, arancini and, in summer, granitas. Products from Piedmont and Valle d’Aosta are just as prominent: hence Carmagnola peppers, Santena asparagus, Saluzzo damsons, Nizza Monferrato “hunchback cardoons,” and Alba truffles, each in its own season. The latest offerings from the Occhipinti family are jams from the Valle d’Aosta and vegetable creams and preserves from a small farm in Vinovo. They also offer an excellent home delivery service.
