Pausa Café

The Pausa Cafè cooperative was formed in 2004 with the aim of participating in an international cooperation project to produce quality coffee in collaboration with the whole supply chain, starting above all from small growers in the Huehuetenango department of Guatemala. One of the project’s many offshoots is the roasting of the prized “fair” coffee in the workshop at the Lorusso e Cutugno remand centre in Turin, thus allowing inmates to follow a process of social and professional reintegration.

Over the years, the cooperative has branched out further and a new social oven will soon be installed in the remand centre to bake bread and typical pastries.

All products are on sale at the Eco Bistrot Dal Basso, a cafeteria cum confectioner’s, also part of the project, which employs people who live in situations of vulnerability, asylum seekers and offenders serving sentences in the community.
