Più di un Gelato (More than an ice cream): this gelateria owes its name to the fact that the aim of the owners –Turin-based entrepreneurs Carla Stillavato and Giorgio Piantino and two sociomedical cooperatives – is not only the production of good ice cream but also the creation of a virtuous system. To do this, in 2009, at their first premises in Via San Tommaso (now only a workshop), they hired Alfio Tarateta, a historical figure in the Piedmontese craft ice cream world, as a consultant. Combining quality ice cream and social commitment also involves the owners’ La Manna farm at Costigliole di Saluzzo, which supplies hazelnuts, figs, apples, apricots and, for a brief period in the summer, ramassin, or damsons. Flavours rotate, 15 or so at a time, and are in many cases imaginative: hence stracciamenta (stracciatella and mint), salted caramel, ricotta with caramelised figs, and traditional persipien, peaches stuffed with chocolate and amaretti cookies. The range is rounded off with ice lollies and granitas, and there’s also a café. Closed on Sunday morning.
