RabezzanaIn 2024 Rabezzana – a Monferrato winery and Turin hospitality group – opened a new wine bar on Via Monferrato, near the Gran Madre church, with an outdoor seating area on the pedestrian street and a selection of wines, spirits and cheese boards perfect for aperitivo time.
The long-standing premises on Via San Francesco d’Assisi are also worth visiting, spread across two floors: upstairs, a collection of nearly a thousand Italian and international labels, twelve of them from the Rabezzana brand; downstairs, in what in 1911 was a ballroom, the osteria offers a cuisine uniting land and sea.
It was in 1911 that it all began, when Luigi Rabezzana – a vinegrower in San Desiderio d’Asti since 1876 – opened a shop selling his own wines in Turin, on Via San Massimo. His son Carlo turned it into a refined wine bar in Piazza Carignano that later became an osteria. After the war, in 1946, Renato moved the business to its current location on Via San Francesco d’Assisi, a small storefront next to his uncle’s pasta shop. The baton then passed to a second Carlo, who ran the wine bar until 2012, when Franco, who trained as an engineer, took over and revitalised the legacy, including refurbishing the warehouse on the lower floor and turning it into a space for cultural events.
