The San Michele has occupied a well-restructured old industrial plant in the small town of Sant’Ambrogio, in the shadow of the mountaintop Sacra di San Michele abbey, since 2014. Today it is managed by Bruno Gentile and his son Riccardo and run by brewer Emanuele Moretti, and produces mainly high-fermentation beers, 16 in all. Worth mentioning are the new hemp beers, an excellent barley wine and a great variety of Belgian-style beers, including an interesting chestnut beer, an IPA and a Black IPA. It is also important to point out that the water used comes from the local mountains, the honey, hemp and chestnuts from local farms, and some of the malt, hops and yeasts are Italian in origin. The pub next door to the brewery serves local meat, platters of charcuterie and cheese from the valley and a fine variety of pinsa, a type of pizza, to go with the beers, available draft and bottled. It is also very active in supporting tourist initiatives connected with the abbey and sports events in the local area.
